Idlewild Tour

Many of you are aware of the Mister Rogers tour at Idlewild in Ligonier, PA -- some of you may have actually visited Idlewild yourselves. Last week, Neighbor Guy emailed me with some pictures he had taken during his time at Idlewild which he was happy to have shared here as well. Full-size views of many of these photographs can be seen on Guy's personal photo page.

In addition, Guy also shared with me two YouTube videos he came across which take viewers through the Mister Rogers Idlewild tour. Take a look at the fantastic photographs provided by Guy and then click on the links below to take the tour for yourself!

I think the Idlewild does a great job making you feel like you are IN the Neighborhood of Make Believe. I hope this ride continues to run for many more years and I am happy to be able to share these photos.

Parts of this are really neat, and other parts seem poorly planned. I love the real forest setting, which seems like a natural extension of the set from the show, but those patio canopies over a few of the scenes are awful. I assume they were not planned and were added after the fact to protect the figures and sets from weather. Too bad something more cohesive to the design couldn't have been designed, like pair of trees that hid the canopy or something. Still, neat that kids can see this sort of thing. Wish I could go!

I found the trolley ride at Idlewild to be quite pretty and very well-done. Yes, a few canopies seem to have been added after the fact for protection from the elements and are therefore a bit occlusive. It was difficult to get a good photo of Prince Tuesday's stop or the Platypus mound because of the tarp-like roofs, but I managed. The rest of the stops have great visibility in the midst of nature.
I love the little extras that are added all along the ride, such as the flower and vine adornments above each tunnel opening as well as on Prince Tuesdays' swingset. They are so pretty and I wondered how Fred came to like that look of flowers and vines. They are on Daniels clock as well. The Prince Tuesday stop also has the cute addition of a drinking fountain which I found to be quite charming and of a forgotten time. I haven't seen a children's park with a continuously running drinking fountain since I was a kid.
The entire ride struck me as being quite well-thought out. I rode it so many times, I was starting to look beyond the obvious and really ponder each foot of the journey.
It's truly wonderful.
I also have some very nice photos and would like to post them? May I?
