Monroeville Mall Play Area

Neighbor Guy recently returned from a trip to the Pittsburgh area and was kind enough to share some pictures he took of the play area at the Monroeville Mall. Apparently this mall, just outside Pittsburgh, was used in the movie Dawn of the Dead.

Guy, these photos are terrific. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! And it looks much more well kept than any of the play areas in our malls.

I am glad to see these pictures posted on the site. The play area was, as you can see in the first photo, very large.
I understand it was built in 2003 after Fred Rogers passed away.

Thanks for posting the photos, my children are asking to visit that mall...we live in Ohio!

Maybe a trip to Pittsburgh is in our future.

This is a wonderful playplace! Thank you for the photos. A must-visit place on my next trip! It will be hard to resist playing in it myself by my daughter will be ecstatic!

I am happy to report that my family visited this mall and play area earlier this month. My daughter had a wonderful time! It is unique with a lot of play value. Much more than the usual play areas of "healthy food" that include giant milk cartons and vegetables to climb on. My only disappointment was an obvious ommission. There was no trolley there! I thought it odd that the trolley was excluded, having forgotten that it was in your posted photos. Seeing them again just now, shocked me because it is plain view. So it HAD once included this key piece to the Neighborhood of Make Believe but is now missing.
My guess is that it was damaged and has not been replaced. I would love to find out what happened to it. It is so cute and of significance that I hope it is once again a part of this wonderful play area.

You are very welcome, TL. It was really a wonderful bonus for us during our trip. My little one did have a wonderful time. If we had been on our own, it would have been so easy to spend a full afternoon playing.
