I fully understand the concept of a tribute album as it should allow for some level of interpretation on the part of the performer. If that is the extent of it, this album has accomplished its goal. For me personally, however, it just doesn't work. The style of the songs throughout this album are all reminiscent of what you might hear as you wait in a dentist's office or maybe during the opening of a Disney movie. The intention here is good, but the product is mediocre.
The bonus DVD leaves just as much (if not more) to be desired. While the interview clips and behind-the-scenes footage are interesting, the quality of the video itself is poor enough that it's almost distracting. Between low-quality editing and laughable effects, this bonus disc sealed the deal for me and doomed this tribute album to a life of collecting dust on my CD shelf.
I applaud producer Dennis Scott and the group of performers he assembled for their efforts in paying tribute to Fred Rogers; however, when it comes to "the music of Mister Rogers", I'll stick with the real thing.

I think Amy Grant or Crystal Gayle should have recorded the whole album instead the others. Crystal Gayle sang a "Songs" for Sesame Street back in the 1980s that was to die for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn_fQi7Ux04
I could do without Ricky Scaggs/BJ Thomas

Other artists that should have been considered for this type of music of the neighborhood cd: Harry Connick Jr., Tony Bennett, Ella Jenkins, Joe Negri, Chuck Aber, Betty Aberlin, Maggie Stewart. I personally thought Amy Grant was the best artist for the album.
I agree with you Mike I also would keep Bobby Caldwell since he and his Family knew the Costa Family also I would cut Toni Rose from the album as well I think that most of the songs were played in a child like setting Did you know and It's You I like and Sometimes are my favorite of this album and the music video Thank you for being you :)

I thought, "Are You Brave" sounded OK, but I concur with Tim's overall assessment.
While I did actually enjoy this album a lot, I felt that Holly Yarbrough's album, "Mister Rogers Swings" was much more true to the tone and style of his songs. Also I the song selection was a bit better as well. If any of you haven't listened to this yet, it's a must!
I think that Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin should have recorded this album back in the late 70s.
Adam -- I agree with you as I enjoy Holly's album much more than I did this particular tribute.
After rehearing Mister Rogers Swings! I think Joe Negri should do a tribute since he was many of the neighbors who sang with Fred and we do know that he was a musical person just like Costa and Rogers

My sister bought me this album and I was SO BUMMED!!! I hate to be critical, but these recordings are so "adult contemporary." and not the simple (yet complex) jazzy music that Neighborhood lovers are accustomed to. It is especially disappointing because they probably only had one chance to make a tribute album like this and I think it missed the mark. :( I really wish there would have been an album made with all of the Neighbors from the show at some point during the run of MRN. There was a lot of talent!! Or even now some contemporary children's recording artists recording the songs of Fred Rogers to help his beautiful lyrics reach a wider audience. Good intent. . .but not my favorite album!
