Henrietta Greeting Card [1992]

Here's a greeting card from 1992 featuring Henrietta Pussycat. The front features a caring message from Henrietta...

...while the back describes Henrietta for anyone who might receive this card and is not familiar with the Neighborhood program.

I absolutely love the fact that there is a footnote included on the front of this card for anyone who may not immediately understand the "meow meow special" message.

A record sale find.

While working at a local used record sale, I took some time beforehand to sift through the selection of children's records. Only one Mister Rogers album was there -- one which I already had. Considering everything in the sale is extremely cheap and all proceeds go to a charitable cause, I figured I'd go ahead and grab it and see if it was in better shape than the copy I owned. Much to my surprise, I didn't have this album after all.

Call me crazy. Call me obsessive. Call me ridiculous. If you do, you would likely see eye to eye with my wife. This LP that I picked up is nearly identical to the copy of Let's Be Together Today that I already owned, but take a closer look.

Different year. Different company. Different record.

Considering the LPs are the only significant pieces of Mister Rogers merchandise that I actually collect, this was quite a find. Ridiculous or not.

New Fan Art

In the first Neighborhood Archive podcast I mentioned that I used to draw pictures of Mister Rogers house when I was younger. This past week I was contacted by Neighbor Archive reader Cole who shared with me a drawing he did as a youngster. My drawings were nothing compared to the detail Cole created as a ten-year-old back around 2000. Click on the images below for more detail.

What's cool about Cole's drawing is that the doors open to reveal even more detail. The sand table even opens! Well done, Cole. Thanks for sharing.

Build a Castle Card [1973]

Back in September, I shared some images of the Build a Castle Puzzle from the 1973 Rainy Day Club. I've since come across the card that was sent along with this castle set to explain the importance of this item.

Podcast #2 - King Friday XIII Celebrates

Back with a second podcast, Tim and Eric take a close look at the King Friday XIII Celebrates LP from the late 1960's.

After recording our hour-long conversation, I attempted to cut it down to a more listenable half-hour. Unfortunately, in doing so, the finished product seems a bit choppy at times. My apologies for that as well as my continuous pen-clicking which I didn't realize I was doing until I went to edit the recording.

Either way...enjoy!

Jak Pak Toys [1980]

Early last summer, we looked at the Daniel Striped Tiger Play Watch that was manufactured by Jak Pak in Milwaukee. Apparently one of several items of Mister Rogers merchandise made by Jak Pak, here are a few others from that same line.

The first is a King Friday hand puppet -- one in a set of four that also included Queen Sara, Daniel Tiger, and X the Owl.

Next is a Color Chain set which comes complete with a pair of plastic scissors. The paper for the chain appears to be cut into strips already so I am not entirely sure why the scissors were necessary. Maybe because it would make the set more marketable than if it was just a package of paper strips. More than likely to accommodate the other options for using these paper strips which are listed on the package: "Make paper chains, flowers, cats, lanterns, wheels."

Last is a set of plastic jewelry featuring Henrietta Pussycat. As the package indicates, this set includes a three-strand beaded necklace, two bracelets, and a ring and pendant with Henrietta's image on both.

From around 1980, the market price for these products were very affordable at around $1.00-1.50 each.

If anyone has access to images of the Queen Sara, Daniel, and X hand puppets from this line of products, I'd certainly be interested in seeing them.

Fred Rogers Interviewed on NPR's "Fresh Air"

I just stumbled across this 2002 interview of Fred from NPR's Fresh Air program. Mr. Rogers is interviewed while at the piano, so there's some music as well as some puppet voices. There's a few new stories that I hadn't heard before, and as always, it's nice to hear Mr. Rogers reflecting about his show. Check it out here.
