Episode 0024 [1968]

Original Air Date: March 21, 1968

Mister Rogers arrives with a collection of various eye charts designed for people of different ages. After showing the different charts, he sings You're Growing before leaving for an appointment with his optometrist -- Dr. Mallinger.

At Dr. Mallinger's office, Mister Rogers has his eyes examined and listens as Dr. Mallinger explains the different parts of the exam.

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Handyman Negri is preparing to install the arms on Donkey Hodie's new windmill when construction comes to a halt. After seeing the size of the windmill's arms, King Friday goes back on his offer to allow the windmill to be built behind the castle as it will take away from his castle's beauty. The King orders that a new location be found "someplace else" for the windmill. Nurse Miller encourages Donkey Hodie and Handyman Negri to be brave and they all sing Be Brave Be Strong.

Back at the house, Mister Rogers wonders where Donkey Hodie will find someplace else and Picture Picture shows images of different places where people live.

Wow! I believe Dr. Malinger is the doctor who examines Fred's eyes later in teh series (in the 80's?)- can't remember the episode's theme, but the name sounds familiar.

Why doesn't Mister Rogers change into a sweater in this episode?

Steven -- He mentions at the beginning of the episode that he is not changing into a sweater because he is leaving promptly for his eye exam.

Eric -- You're exactly right. It's in Episode 1728. I mentioned this episode in the notes but did not realize that it was the same doctor!
