Make a Journal App

The Mister Rogers' Make a Journal application became available for iPhone and iPod Touch users back in 2009. My kids have enjoyed using this app for a few years so I'm not quite sure why I've never mentioned it on here before.

The application opens with Daniel Striped Tiger and the Neighborhood Trolley offering a warm welcome to kids. Touching the Trolley on this screen makes it moves along the tracks. Similarly, Daniel speaks when touched: "Hi, I'm Daniel. Want to play a game with me?"

Initially, kids select the "Make a Journal" option and are taken to a screen where they can choose which situation they would like to document in their journal.

Each selection offers multiple screens to follow from which children can select their feelings and actions in their chosen situation.

Each journal entry ends with the opportunity for children to express themselves through artwork. Once their drawing is complete, the entire journal entry can be saved for later viewing.

This was the finished artwork of my oldest daugher from when she was two years old.

If you've got kids who love visiting their Neighborhood visits and you've got an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, I highly recommend this application. It's a very quick and fun way for children to express themselves and and a great way for parents to spark discussions about healthy feelings.

The Make a Journal application can be downloaded via iTunes.
