Episode 0040 [1968]

Original Air Date: April 12, 1968

Prepared for the reception at the castle, Mister Rogers arrives dressed in a tuxedo. With him, he carries two large cut-outs in the shape of the letter S -- for Sara Saturday. He talks about dressing fancy as he puts on his vest and jacket. Expressing his excitement, Mister Rogers sings Today is a Special Day.

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lynda Martha is preparing for her performance at the reception and shows her new "S.S." flags to Corny.

Meanwhile, Handyman Negri stops by the tree on his way to the reception. He rehearses the opening of his performance for X the Owl and Henrietta Pussycat.

Inside the castle in the S Room, Lady Aberlin has scheduled the entertainment for the reception which includes Monduel Banessia playing the congo drums and Lynda Martha twirling a baton. Dressed in a tuxedo, Handyman Negri is introduced by his full name -- Joseph Harold Negri -- and plays the guitar. The guests are surprised to learn that the guitarist is Handyman Negri who they are not used to seeing so formally dressed. Near the end of the entertainment, Lady Aberlin sings I Think I'm Going to Like Today.

It comes time for Sara Saturday to depart and everyone wishes for her to return to the Neighborhood very soon. The guests move to the R Room for refreshments.

Back at the house, Mister Rogers enjoys some milk and a cookie shaped like a letter S. As he eats, he talks about Sara Saturday and how King Friday likes her very much. Concluding for the week, Mister Rogers sings Tree Tree Tree.

Is this the first time Joe Negri plays his guitar on the program?

Without skimming back through the notes from the previous 39 episodes, I'm not positive -- but I think you're right -- that this is the first time we see Joe Negri play the guitar (although he does rehearse a bit for X and Henrietta on the previous episode).
