Episode 1231 [1972]

Original Air Date: April 10, 1972

Mister Rogers arrives with a rubbing of tree bark that he has made on paper and shows viewers how he did it. He has also brought with him a collection of leaves which he takes to the kitchen to make more rubbings. As he creates new rubbings, he recognizes that each leaf is different and sings Everybody's Fancy.

Mrs. McFeely stops by with a large philodendron leaf that she got from the Neighborhood conseratory. She joins Mister Rogers in the kitchen where she makes a rubbing of her own. Mrs. McFeely invites Mister Rogers to her house where she has an animal to show him.

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Mrs. McFeely is helping Lady Elaine post her F.F.J. (Flying For Jupiter) signs as Lady Elaine prepares for a trip to Jupiter. Mrs. McFeely is a bit skeptical as Lady Elaine decides that she will use leaves as her method of transportation.

At the tree, Mrs. McFeely is looking to gather some leaves for Lady Elaine when Francois Clemmons stops by representing the Owl Correspondence School. Mr. Clemmons is teaching a new course through OCS -- Early American Owl History.

Lady Elaine accepts 99 leaves from Mrs. McFeely which she will use to take her to Jupiter.

Back at the house, Mister Rogers talks about history and talks about his own background before singing
Everybody Has a History.

Visiting the McFeely house, Mister Rogers finds Mr. McFeely tending to a fern on the front porch. As they wait for Mrs. McFeely to return, they make a rubbing of a wicker table. When Mrs. McFeely arrives, everyone goes inside where the McFeelys have a young caiman on loan from the Neighborhood zoo.

Something I'm wondering. In these earlier programs, the houses look different. What did the McFeely house look like at this time?

The "inside" of the house looks the same as in other episodes where Mister Rogers visits the McFeelys. As for the model of the house, it's a bit different. Here is where the camera stops before Mister Rogers arrives at their house in this episode: http://tinyurl.com/mcfeelyhouse
